New Studio

I just put my new studio together and tried a couple test shots to see how it looks.  I think the pictures turned out pretty good for being my first attemp with my new lights and white seamless background.

These pictures were taken with 1 strobe shot with reflecting back into an umbrella on camera left, then I had a reflector placed on camera right for fill flash.  I used a second strobe to blow out the background and make it completely white.

In the next image I just added the green background in Photoshop.

Draper Utah Temple & Photowalking Day

Saturday was a photography day!  First I got up early to get some shots of the new Draper Temple.  I am really happy with the results I got.  Getting there before the sun comes up is key.  It was a really cloudy and rainy morning which made it a little miserable.  I constantly had to keep my lens clear of spots.  To help increase the blue in the sky I set my white balance to tungsten.  This gives the white balance a cooler (temperature) look.

After that I met up with Luke Isley and went up Big Cottonwood Canyon.  I can not remember any time I have ever been up that canyon.  I have gone up Little Cottonwood a lot.  But we found a spot near the road and hiked about 10 min off the road to get some stream shots.  I used my polarized filter to keep glare to a minimum.  I shot at a slow shutter speed to give the water the silky look.  I also have a ND filter that I can put on, but didn’t need to because of the overcast day which made it dark enough to get the longer exposure I was looking for.

Then we had a photography meet up with the Photowalking Utah group.  It was at a greenery called Cactus and Tropicals.  We had a really great time taking photos with a great group of people.

Few of the kids

Just playing around tonight, got a couple nice ones of the kids.  It was the first time I used my new reflector to give some fill light.

These were taken with a flash shot through an umbrella on the right side and the reflector on the left.

I’m excited, coming this next week I will be getting my studio strobes.  I have my white seamless background so hopefully get some nice shots in the coming weeks.
